Curly girl method

Growing up I have hated my curly hair. I only remember how unmanageable my hair was and how it hurt when It needed to be brushed. It took years before I have embraced my curly hair and loved the way they look.

I cannot believe I have never heard about Curly Girl Method before. I came across it a year ago, but have not actually implement the method till few weeks ago. I am still not following it this method 100%,  as I am using the shampoo I have till it’s finished.

The Curly Girl Method:

This method was first made popular in December 2001, when hairstylist Lorraine Massey released Curly Girl: The Handbook.

Ideal for those with natural curly and wavy hair, this method relies heavily on conditioner and styling gels/creams that are free of sulfates. The result is hair that is perfectly moisturized and curls that are smooth and bouncy.

Moisture is EVERYTHING, so anything that dries or damages your hair is out of the question. Avoid products that contain sulfates, alcohol, fragrance, and non-water-soluble silicones. Don’t brush your hair when dry, it will leads to the breakage.

To prep your hair, use clarifying shampoo that will get rid of all dirt, oil, and product buildup in your hair (products available at Sephora and Arbonne) . You hair cannot be healthy if you don’t get a haircut or trim every 4 months minimum.

After wash, use conditioner. Distribute conditioner though your hair, you can than brush your hair. Wash off the conditioner with cooler water, never hot. Hot water contributes to frizz.

Next step is styling curly hair. Work product from end toward roots and crunch it to work products in.

Once all of your products are in, take the time to really shape your curls. You can do this either by scrunching them upwards in the palm of your hand or by twirling them individually around your finger.

Also it is recommended not to touch your hair while it’s drying, this also creates the frizz.
